VAUGNIAUX’S SISTER GOES INTO GERMANY WITH GREAT ARMY OF OCCUPATION
As Surgical Nurse Miss Vuagniaux Gets to See Wonderful Places and Has Thrilling Experiences
I know you will want to know where I am. Landed in Glasgow, Scotland, went to London; was there a few days, crossed the English Channel to Folkstone to Bologne; here we had and air raid; left for Paris and was there three days; went to Notre Dame and all over; saw millions of things; went to Angers; there one month, then to Tours. This is a beautiful city; the grand Loire river, wonderful bridges. Can’t describe it. Was there about three months, then on to Paris again. Brother Ulysses visited me at Angiers and tours also. He was at Bourages, then moved to Nogent. We organized our mobile hospital and came to Coulommiers. (Hunt these places on your map.) It was here we had thousands of patients and worked day and night. Never can forget that we were here and had many of the marines; they surely fought well. We were there six weeks, the went by truck to Chateau Thierry. Here the Marne flows thru a fine valley. Many times we have crossed it and we were busy, for it was a hard fight here. Never can forget this place, either. We then went to Neufchateau, then Aucemont. This is near Verdun, so close that we walked to Verdun, and shells flew very close to us. We went thru the fortified city which is the pride of France. Millions of men fell at this place and cemeteries cover acres all thru this country.
We were at Fromerville and Esnes when the armistice was signed. Wish I describe these places, but you will have to wait. We are now at Dun of Bantherville-not far from Germany, and we are packed and will go to Germany with the army of occupation. Hope I can write my next letter from Germany. Have been thru Belleau Woods, Argonne Forests, Hill 304 and 204. These places are completely demolished and blood soaked. Have been all over central and northern France and now on to Germany on the Rhine. Don’t know where Ulysses is but will write him where I am and he will do the same. Am anxious to know where he is. Let all our folks read this. We have plenty and are all right. Think we can stand this winter nicely.

Emily's Appointment- Red Cross
Here I am after the earthquake of 1933 in Long Beach CA. We were
without gas. I look and felt like and still feel a 1000 years old. Taken March

The second photo is of John, Emily Paul and Hortense Vuagniaux. Emily is between her two brothers.
Emily and her husband Mr. Guy. Little is known of him as they married late in
life. We know he was part of a family that made a large sum of money during the
California gold rush and he received an income from a trust as long as he lived
and with wise investments he left Emily a small fortune after he died.
