THOMAS SHUNICK WAS GRANDPA IN EARNEST

Thomas Shunick of this city is the proudest man in Monmouth. He was made grandpa twice yesterday, the stork visiting two of his daughters on the same day and leaving two little girls. The first young lady arrived at 11 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs.. Martin Graham on West Boston Avenue. At 2 o'clock a telephone message came from the home of Mr. and Mrs.. Morris Fitzgerald, of Chicago that a girl had come to make her home there, and the response was that the same good fortune had been experienced here in the morning. Mrs.. Graham was formerly Miss Nelle Shunick and Mrs.. Fitzgerald was formerly Miss Madge Shunick.

Thomas Shunick, Sr. who died yesterday afternoon at his home, 305 North A Street, following a stroke of paralysis with which he was seized Sunday, was one of the most prominent farmers of Warren County and farmed nearly all his life, since coming to America. About nine years ago he retired from active farming and moved to town where he has lived ever since. In his death, Warren County loses one of its valued residents and his many friends will join the bereaved family in mourning his death.

Thomas Shunick was born in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland March 13, 1834, and came to America in 1851 settling near Gerlaw, where he worked on a farm for two years. He took up farming for himself and followed that occupation until he moved into this city. In April, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Mahoney in Galesburg. To this union twelve children were born, six of whom are left to mourn his loss. These are Thomas, Jr., Morris T., William and Charles of this city. Mrs.. M. Fitzgerald of Chicago, and Mrs.. Martin Graham of Denver, Colorado, all of whom were at his bedside when he passed away. Mrs.. Shunick preceded her husband in death some nineteen years ago.
