  Richard Shunick

The second son, Richard, was born in December 1826, County Cork, Ireland. The "Past and Present of Warren County, Illinois" Chicago:

H.F, Kett & Co., 1877 indicated the following:

"SHUNICK, RICHARD, Farmer and Stock Raiser; Sec. 19; P.O. Spring Grove; born in Ireland in December, 1826; came to this Co. in 1853; Dem; Cath; owns 360 acres, valued at $20,000; wife was Elizabeth O’Neil, born in Ireland; married June 17, 1857; eight children, five sons and two daughters living, one daughter dead."

Elizabeth was born in 1832 and died in 1902. Richard died five years later on April 6,1907. Both are buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth, Illinois. The marker is a large one, standing about seven feet tall. On the back side of the stone are the names and years of birth of seven children: Thomas, Mary, Maurice, Daniel, Richard, Jr., Edmond, and Ellen. Years of death are shown for Daniel, Daniel and Richard, Jr., but they appear to be buried elsewhere.
