William Otterbein Burtner B. 7/27/ 1827 Richland G. Penn M. 6/21/1845 Died 9/12/1912

Minerva Boyer Ennis B. 9/13/1826 Kentucky Died 12/3/1900 Wm. 0 Burtner was born in State of Penn. and came with his parents to Ohio as a small child in 1828. Later moving with his parents to Clark Go. 111. in 1844. He was married to Minerva B. Ennis on June 21, 1845. They lived for several years near Dolson in Coles Go. Later moved to Douglas Co. where he was granted the first land grant given in Champaign Ill. He lived on this farm near Broadlands where he built a substantial house and mill. He grafted fruit trees by the budding system . I visited this house with my father James A Burtner in 1938 and a fruit tree was still living in the back yard at that time bearing 4 kinds of fruit. He was a true Christian and built Burtner Chapel 2 mi. N. of Broadlands and taught in the Sunday School many years, In later years he and his wife moved to Newman where they lived until their death. eleven children were born to this union.

I wanted to mention here that when Wm. 0. Burtner moved with his mother and father and brothers and sisters to Ill. , that two brothers of Geo. 0. (his father) also came with them to Ill. Their names were John and Washington. John was a minister and built and served a United Brethern Church in Vermillion Co. Ill. I have no record of Washington Burtner but several of his descendants now live in K. C. Mo. In a old bible belonging to Geo. H. and Sarah C. Burtner I found this page filled out in form--- "Marriage Certificate"

George Henry Burtner of Douglas County, Ill. and Sarah Catherine Wilson of Edgar County, Ill. were united in marriage at the brides home on Nov. 14th, 1875.

By- John Burtner, a minister.

John Burtner married and had children which live in Calif. but I have no names or record of them. Children of Wm. 0. and Minerva Burtner are;

1.            John died when 21 yrs. of age of measles.

2.            Alex died when 19 yrs. of age, accidently shot when leaning from his horse to get his gun from a fence.

3.            Molly married Will Hurst of near Paris. There are five children of this marriage but I do not have their record ( Fred, Frank, Belle, Nellie, and Myrtle)

4. George Henry born 8/14/1856 died 2/22/1930 married Sarah C Wilson on 11/14/1875. She was born 5/3/1858 died 6/2/1925. Children of this union.Walter Stanford Burtner B. 8/14/1876 died 1/22/1958 M. Alice Rolison on 12/20/1899 she died 2/15/1918.

1st. child Otto Burtner B. 1/16/1901 died 1/20/1973

2^nd wife of Walter was Zella Garrett B. 5/8/1900
