Funeral Services - Wilbur L. Gardner

Funeral services for Wilbur L. Gardner, who died Monday at 6:15 a.m. at St. Mary's hospital in Galesburg, will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Immaculate Conception church, the Rosary will be recited Wednesday, at 8 p.m. at the Turnbull Funeral Home. Burial will take place in St. Mary's cemetery. A resident of R. F. D. Gerlaw, Mr.. Gardner had been in poor health since last fall, and had been a patient in the hospital since January 16. Born March 3, 1900 in Warren County, the son of Ira M. Gardner and Frances (Shunick) Gardner, he had lived all of his lifetime in Kelly and Coldbrook townships. He attended the rural schools and Brown's Business college in Galesburg. His grandmother, Margaret Ann Robinson, was the first child of white settlers born in Warren County. Mr.. Gardner raised livestock, cattle and hogs. He was a charter member of the Warren county Farm Bureau and had served on the board. He also was quite active in the Warren county, N.F.O. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, and of Knights of Columbus. His first marriage was to Evelyn Jackson, October 21, 1919, at Rock Island, and her death occurred October 23, 1958. He was married a second time, to Rosemary Lee, November 28, 1959, at Moline, and she survives along with a son, James W. Gardner of Santa Barbara, Calif., a daughter, Margaret Ann, and a son, Irish Lee, both at home. Six grandchildren and a sister, Mrs.. Frank (Genevieve) Denny of Pampano Beach, Fla. also survive, as well as his step mother Mrs.. Lola Gardner of Monmouth. His parents, an infant brother and his first wife preceded him in death.

Barney Shunick of Alexis, Dead

Lawrence B. (Barney) Shunick, aged 52, of Route Two, Alexis, died Friday at 3:23 p.m. at St. Mary's hospital in Galesburg. Born April 19, 1921, in Galesburg, he was the son of D. H. and Kathryn (Flanagan) Shunick, and spent his early life in Alexis where he also received his schooling. Mr.. Shunick was a farmer and was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church of Alexis. His marriage to Betty McKay took place July 20, 1946, at Aledo, and she survives along with four daughters: Miss Stephanie Shunick of Arlington, VA, Mrs.. Kenneth (Kay) Niles, and Miss Debbie and Miss Michele Shunick, all of Alexis; two sons, L. B. Shunick, Jr. and John Shunick, both of Alexis; one grandchild; seven sisters: Mrs.. Aileen Morris of Galesburg, Miss Kathreine Shunick, and Miss Edna Shunick, both of Chicago, Mrs.. Frances Sherwood and Mrs.. William (Gene) Woods, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs.. Fred (Leona) Colford of Vista, Calif., and Mrs.. Theresa Vaughan of Phoenix, Ariz. and two brothers: John Shunick of Monmouth, and James Shunick of Escondido, Calif. Besides his parents, he was predeceased in death by a sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Alexis in charge of the Rev. Richard Slavish, pastor. Burial will take place in St. Mary's cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday, at the Turnbull Funeral Home where friends may call.]

Lawrence B. Shunick

Funeral services for Lawrence B. Shunick of Alexis, who died Friday, at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg, were conducted this morning at 10 o'clock at St. Theresa's Catholic church in Alexis. The Rev. Richard Slavish, pastor, officiated. Burial took place in St. Mary's Cemetery in Monmouth with John Olin, Phillip Dutton, Cecil Miller, Julian Morris, Robert Flanagan and Curtis Sloan as pallbearers. The Rosary was recited at 8:15 p.m. Monday, at the Turnbull Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Mr.. Slavish. Les Enderlin served as an usher.
