JOSEPH ARCHER

Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was offered June 3 at Mt. St. Joseph Residence and Extended Care Center Chapel for Joseph Archer, who died June 1. Interment was in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Mr. Archer was born Sept. 29, 1895, in Fremont County, Iowa, and had lived in Portland seven years. He was a retired farmer and soil commissioner. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus in Shenandoah. Surviving are his wife Mary; sons David and Thomas, both of Portland; a sister, Ruth Saner of Alameda, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Thursday rites for Celia Archer

Mary Cecilia Archer died in Portland, Oregon Friday, April 15th at Mount St. Joseph nursing home where she had been a patient since 1969.

Celia was born November 17, 1901 in Westphalia, Ia., the daughter of Henry Sallers and Christine Mumm Sallers.

She was married on April 27, 1934 to J. R. (Bob) Archer at St. Mary's Church in Shenandoah and they lived on a farm northwest of town in Fremont County until 1969 when they moved to Portland, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, five brothers and one sister. Surviving are two sons, David L. Archer of Cottage Grove, Mn., and Thomas M. Archer of Portland, Oregon, seven grandchildren, one sister, Elizabeth "Sally" Sallers of Omaha, Neb., and many nieces and nephews.

Celia was a member of St. Mary's Church, Shenandoah, a past president of the Guild, and a member of the altar society. She was also a member of the O.D.O. Club and was active in many civic and charitable organizations.

Rosary service will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Jennings Chapel, and funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. April 21st at St. Mary's Church in Shenandoah. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.

Jennings Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

John M. Hayes, Sr., 88, of 212 West Third Ave., died at 2:44 p.m. Thursday at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg. He was born Feb. 8, 1889 in Warren County, the son of John and Fanny Shunick Hayes. He was reared and educated in the Larchland community. He married Mabel Frances Gavin Oct. 3, 1912 at Monmouth. She died July 16, 1928. He married Stella P. McKim Aug. 22, 1951 at Macomb. He farmed in the Larchland community before his retirement. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Mary Ellen) Ogren, Rockford, and Mrs. Frank (Roseann) Francis, Lesle; two sons, John M. Hayes, Jr., Monmouth and Robert D. Hayes, Rockford; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Everett (Marie) Raney, Winter Haven, Fla., and Mrs. Kathryn Johnson, Rockford; one brother, William C. Hayes, Rockford; and two step-daughters, Mrs. Ted (Ida) Davis, Santa Cruz, N.M., and Mrs. Helen Vivian Humphrey, Union City, Calif. His parents, first wife, two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren died earlier.

Services were held for John Michael Hayes, Sr., 88, at 10 a.m. this morning at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Hayes, who was born Feb. 28, 1889, had a son, James T. Hayes, who died earlier. Pallbearers were Maurice Lee, John Doyle, James Lee, Michael Boozan, Willard Schunick, and John Schunick.

Monmouth - John M. Hayes, Sr., 88, of 212 W. Third St., Monmouth died Thursday at 2:44 p.m. at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Funeral Mass will be said Saturday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Friends may call at Turnbull Funeral Home today and tomorrow until the hour of service. The Rosary will be recited tonight at 8. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Monmouth.
