Shunick, a lifelong resident of Monmouth and community, died Wednesday evening at her home at 510 North 10th St., after an extended illness. Sarah Cavanaugh Shunick was born Dec., 26, 1889, at Monmouth and was a daughter of the late James H. Cavanaugh and Roseanna Kinney Cavanaugh. She was a teacher in local rural schools prior to her marriage to Richard Louis Shunick on Jan. 28, 1914. Her husband died on Feb. 15, 1932. She is survived by six children: Miss Rosemary Shunick and Mrs. Eral (Vera) Cofield of Monmouth, Sister Bernadette, OS.B. and Sister Vernonica, O.S.B. both of St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill., Richard E. Shunick of Paradise Valley, Ariz., and Thomas J. Shunick of Moline; 12 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; five sisters and one brother, Mrs. Kathryn Burns, Miss Rose Cavanaugh, Mrs. Joseph E. Toal and T. James Cavanaugh all of Monmouth, Mrs. Mary McLaughlin of Rockford and Mrs. Ann Shea of Galesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Three sisters, a brother and two infant sisters also died earlier. Mrs. Shunick was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was the first president of the Parish Council of the National Council of Catholic Women and the organizer of the first Mothers' Club of the Immaculate Conception School. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Turnbull Funeral Home until the time of service. McNamara took place in April of 1910 at Monmouth, and he preceded her in death. For a number of years, Mrs. McNamara cooked at the Ford Hopkins Drug Store, and later at the Colonial Hotel. More recently, she had been employed as a companion for elderly residents. A member of the Immaculate Conception chuch, she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was a member of World War II Mothers Club. Survivors include the following children: Howard McNamara, residing in California, Mrs. Mary Dorothy Hardy of Streator, John Paul McNamara of Abingdon, James Edward McNamara of Orange, Calif., Mrs. Betty Ann Overton of Long Beach, Calif., George McNamara of Rialto, Calif., and David R. McNamara of San Antonio, Tex; 14 grand-children, three great-grandchildren, a brother, James Mahoney of River Grove, Ill, and a sister, Mrs. Calisma (?) Swanson, of Des Moines, Ia. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph R. Maloney. November 22, 1967 Robert Archer's Brother Dies Ralph Archer, 69, of Portland, Ore. died suddenly Tuesday night according to word received by his brother, Robert Archer of Imogene, Wednesday. ARCHER Leo Shunick Archer was born December 31, 1892 in Fremont County, Iowa, to Frederick and Julie Shunick Archer, and died May 15, 1976 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, four months and 14 days. He was united in marriage to Elsie Zondler in Audubon, Iowa, August 15, 1931. To this union two sons were born, Bill Archer and Charles Archer. Leo is survived by his son Bill of Corning; a sister Mrs. Ruth (Frank) Saner of Alameda, Calif., a brother Robert Archer of Portland, Oregon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie, November 11, 1969, also by his parents, and a son, Charles. Funeral mass was held May 17 at St. Patrick Catholic church in Corning with Rev. Monsignor (?) officiating . Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imogene. Mrs. Bill Kelly was organist. Paulbearers were Jim Sullivan, John Jones, Gerald Skahill, bill Ryan, Julius Dinville and Robert Gilmore.
