MARY ANN (MOLLIE) SHUNICK was the second
child of John and
Catherine (Lee) SHUNICK. She was born 9 November 1858 in Monmouth, Illinois
and married James Daniel MC NAMARA on 16 January 1879, also in Monmouth. James
MC NAMARA was born 6 August 1854 and died 22 April 1917. Mollie passed away 22
April 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri. They were the parents of nine children:
Anastasia Shunick
Anastasia (or
ANACETIA) SHUNICK was born in July 1860, Monmouth,
Illinois. She married John BERRIGAN on
February 9, 1887, and they lived
in Omaha, Nebraska. John was born on Sep. 22,1860 and died Feb.15, 1939. The
were the parents of eight children, Henry John, James, Mary, Mildred, Anna,
Frances and Vincent.
Julia Agnes Shunick
Julia, the older woman is on the far right in this picture taken in the
1920's. Next to her is Anna, her sister in the darker colored dress. then
Katherine Archer Gilmore, Mary Berigan Rowell. The children are the
Gilmore children.
Julia was born 21 April 1862, Warren Co.,
IL. She married Fredrick H. Archer
23 September 1887 in Alexis. Fredrick born 30 June 1857 in Biggsville, IL
and died 12 December 1920 Shenandoah, IA. Julia died 5 Aug. 1941 in Hand
Hospital Shenandoah, Iowa. Both are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah,
Iowa.

ARCHER were the parents of
nine children. The children were John, Frederick, Catherine, Ralph, Leo, Ruth,
Joseph, Genevieve, and Martha
Morris Shunick
MORRIS J.
SHUNICK, was born in 1864 in Alexis, Illinois. He married Margaret (Maggie)
PAGE. They had no children. Morris died 27 October 1949 in Galesburg, while he
was a patient in St. Mary’s Hospital. Margaret died in 1954 and they are
both buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth, Illinois. Maggie had been
married before. PAGE was her first husband’s name.
Fannie
Shunick
FANNIE I.
SHUNICK was born 21 May 1865 in She married John HAYES on 8 February 1888 in
Monmouth. They were the parents of seven children. John passed away on 24
January 1913 and Fannie on 17 April 1944. Both are buried in St. Mary’s
Cemetery, Monmouth, Illinois. Their children were John, Fannie, Katherine,
James, David, Hanora, and William.
Harriette Shunick
HARRIETTE
SHUNICK was born 20 November 1866 in Alexis, Illinois. She married Matthew
CRILLY on 16 January 1907. Herbert J. was their only child. Matthew was born
12 April 1862 and died I January 1939. Harriette passed away on 30 September
1952 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Nora Shunick
NORA SHUNICK was
born 20 December 1868 in Alexis, Illinois. She married Thomas M. MC CALE. After
his death in 1897, she married a Mr. MASON. Nora died in November 1924. Tom and
Nora are buried at St. M2ry’S Cemetery, Monmouth. The three children of Nora
and Thomas M. MC CALF were Frances, Florence and Thomas.
Anna Shunick
Anna
came to Iowa to care for the children of her brother John Shunick, as did
several of her sisters before her. As the girls married another sister came to
take her place. Anna married Leroy Albert
MAKINSON on December 31,1896. Leroy was born in 1871. He was the son
of William G. and Elizabeth (DANIELS) MAKINSON. The picture was likely taken at
the time of her wedding. They had three children:
1)
WARREN (DOLLIE), who was born in 1897. He was married in 1928 and lived
in Mason City, Iowa in 1949 and 1962. He died in Bettendorf, Scott County, Iowa
in the 1970’s. Have no record of wife’s maiden name, FERNE? She had
several children but I do not know their names.
2)
HAROLD (FOX), was born in 1899. He lived in North Platte, Nebraska in
1949 and died in August 1951. No children. Wife’s name was Mildred Vitum
3)
Leroy Alexis, was born 17 July
1904. He married Mildred M. VUAGNIAUX on 4 September 1928. They lived in Council
Bluffs, Iowa in 1949. Leroy died 1 January 1942. Their children were:

CATHERINE (KATE)
SHUNICK was born 16 March 1872. She married Levi C. SLOAN on November 7, 1898.
Levi was born 26 April 1868 and died 24 May 1960. They lived in New Boston,
Illinois in 1902 and in Chicago in 1949. Kate died 19 August 1951. Their
children were John, Rachel, Catherine,
Milton, Francis, Warren Lovitt, and Harold.
Francis Shunick
FRANCES SHUNICK,
was born 4 January 1874. She married Ira (Trey) GARDNER on 3 June 1896. Ira was
born 3 May 1869. After Frances’s death on 2 March 1908 Ira remarried to a Lola
E. (born in 1883 and died 1974). Frances and Ira are buried in the Monmouth City
Cemetery. Their children are Wilber, Genevieve and Robert.
David Henry Shunick
DAVID
HENRY SHUNICK was born 2 November 1875 in Alexis, Illinois. He married Kathryn
FLANAGAN on 22 September 1903 in Monmouth, Illinois. Kathryn was born 23 July
1889 in Larchland, Illinois, the daughter of James and Johanna (O’BRIEN)
FLANAGAN. David and Kate Shuriick lived in Alexis and were the parents of eleven
children.
They were Aileen, Katherine, Edna, Frances, Helen, John, Theresa, James, Leone,
Lawrenceand Genevieve.
Blanche Shunick
BLANCHE SHUNICK
was born 2 April 1878 in Alexis, Illinois. She married James O’DONNELL in 1901
in Alexis. James passed away in 1936 in Chicago, Illinois and Blanche there on
30 June 1963. They are buried in Chicago. Their children were Gabriel, Bernard,
Harriette and James.
Theresa Shunick
THERESA (TRESSA)
SHUNICK was born 6 -January 1880. She married William E. (Dick) LAFFERTY. Dick
was born 2 February 1878 and died 29-August 1949 in Alexis. Tressa died 24
January 1958 in Alexis. Both are buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Monmouth,
Illinois. They had one son John Shunick Lafferty.

Census
records indicate that DAVID SHUNICK was born in 1833*
in Ireland. He
married Julia O’CONNELL in Warren County, Illinois in 1860-61. Julia O’CONNELL
was born in 1830 in Ireland and died in 1913.
David passed away in 1917. Both are buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth,
Illinois. They were the parents of six children Mary, Julia, Elizabeth, Ellen,
Nora, Thomas,
